The electronic control unit, counting   that pass in a given unit of time, calculates the speed of rotation of the wheel and if it detects that one or more wheels are blocked during braking it controls the hydraulic pump so as to decrease the force of braking, in practice it performs the same action as the driver would do by releasing the brake pedal, but he can work individually on each individual wheel, which the driver cannot do. This system has evolved with innovations whereas, the very recent systems have been made bi-directional thus managing to tighten a brake as well as release it, this has allowed an improvement in functionality and integration with other safety systems such as emergency-assisted braking.

The Absence Of ABS

In the absence of ABS on asphalt, the wheels quickly lock when braking very decisively, causing the static friction force to decay: the vehicle thus tends to control the direction prior to locking, without the possibility of the steering wheel being corrected by the driver (steering). In old cars, without such a system, either steer or brake thoroughly. You can't do both at the same time. ABS has no disadvantages when used on asphalt, dry or wet, compared to a system that does not have one.
