At the same time, Volkswagen laid the pick-up for a permissible total weight of more than three tonnes. Whoever wanted to use the Amarok for towing, could even order a winch cable, which could be mounted on the loading area or on the front.
Amarok as a Two- And Four-Door Drive
This was followed by a classic pick-up body made of reinforced steel, which had two doors and a single cabin or a four-door cab with crew cab and room for five people. The 5 seater with double cab was the only car body variant offered by Volkswagen in the Amarok range of the European markets. Depending on the design, the VW Pick-up of the first generation came with a length of just 5.18 or 5.25 meters.
Advanced Models of Amarok
The Amarok should now appear more as a distinctive off-roader and recreational car with new options as well as comfort features. The technically and optically revised pick-up was offered in the Comfortline, Highline, Aventura and Canyon lines, which differed in terms of their interior equipment and the used attachments. The Amarok Canyon and Aventura were equipped with sports bars and sills with footboards as well as a sport-designed cooler protection with black lacquered lattice and chrome elements.
In addition, Volkswagen offered various styling packages for the Amarok, which made it possible to select components in stainless steel or black-coated surfaces to enhance the look of the pickup. Also, technically, VW offers all-wheel drive and V6-Prestige as standard in all model versions of Amarok. As a commercial vehicle, the Amarok can handle a good 3.5 tonnes of traction. Increased ground clearance, as an option a switchable or permanent working all-wheel drive, robust multi-layered leaf springs, the Amarok was accordingly equipped to be used as off-road vehicle and towing vehicle.
The fact that Volkswagen established the production of the Amarok already made it clear in which class it competed. Unlike the earlier open-deck, pick-up versions based on the VW Golf, the Amarok got a ladder frame construction similar to that used in truck construction. While in the first generation of Amarok, which was approved as a truck, Volkswagen had placed the commercial vehicle properties at the forefront, the manufacturer changed the strategy of its marketing with the model-maintained version presented in autumn 2016.
